That must mean that his father is actually a Kossith, and I'm assuming a Tal Vashok rather than a Qunari for abandoning the Qun... since the Qunari's name are only referenced by their ranks. Qunari don't use names to identify themselves, but titles. Their "names" are strings of genealogical information used by the Tamassrans for record-keeping.
